Community Crime Fighters Training - London 25th November 2009
The forthcoming London Community Crime Fighters event is taking place at the Oval Cricket Ground on Wednesday 25th November 2009.
This event will actually be the last opportunity during 2009 for community activists and volunteers to attend one day Community Crime Fighters Training.
The event is aimed at those local people who are currently active in their communities, people that are involved in their local residents or tenants groups; people that go along to Police PACT meetings/panels; people that are part of Neighbourhood Watch or other community groups and organisations.
Louise Casey, the Government’s Crime and Justice Advisor will be making the key note presentation at the event and during the course of the day delegates will get the chance to participate in workshops looking at the Policing Pledge; the tools and powers councils have to tackle anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood crime. They will also hear about the services available to victims of crime and ASB and learn how to get the best from their local services.
The event is free of charge and lunch and refreshments are provided. Assistance with travel costs is also available.
Interested delegates can book a place by calling the Community Crime Fighters registration desk on 0800 197 2965 or electronically at: www.communitycrimefighters.org.uk quoting booking reference ccf02
These events are ideal for volunteers and community activists but not aimed at workers in the criminal justice system. People should not book to attend if they have already attended a 1 day Community Crime Fighters event. Finally these events are open to people who are over the age of sixteen and not in full time education.
More information about the Community Crime Fighters programme, including the Community Crime Fighters awards can be found on the crime reduction website; www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk/communitycrimefighters/

National BTEC ASB Case Working Qualifications Student Body participate in Home Office Consultation on RIPA.
Review of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act
Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000: Consolidating orders and codes of practice
Passed in 2000, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (called RIPA), created a regulatory framework to govern the way public authorities handle and conduct covert investigations.
This consultation takes a look at all the public agencies, offices and councils that can use investigation techniques covered by RIPA, and asks the public to consider whether or not it's appropriate for those people to be allowed to use those techniques.
In light of recent concerns, the government is particularly interested in how local authorities use RIPA to conduct investigations into local issues. Among other things, in order to ensure that RIPA powers are only used when they absolutely need to be, the government proposes to raise the rank of those in local authorities who are allowed to authorise use of RIPA techniques.
Safety Net Associates were asked by some RSL student practitioners to participate in the consultation on their behalf to establish better guidelines for RSL ASB Case Workers who carry out the same range of duties as colleagues covered as LA employees.

Community Crime Fighters Autumn Road Show
Safety Net Associates have been appointed by the Home Office to help train the trainers at Trafford Hall and new Community Crime Fighters in the use of tools and powers. The Community Crime Fighter programme, announced by the Home Secretary last autumn, provides training for local community activists; people like tenants and residents leaders, Neighbourhood Watch coordinators and Ward Panel chairs. The training gives information about the services they can expect to receive from the police and criminal justice agencies and how they can work closely with those services to get results.
Over 1,500 Community Crime Fighters have been trained so far and the feedback has been excellent. 92% said that as a result of the training they felt better prepared to play a role in helping to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in their area.
We are pleased to confirm that Safety Net Associates have also been secured to deliver workshops on the new National ‘one day’ Community Crime Fighters training events. These will take place around the country during the autumn and will provide an opportunity for volunteers and activists in your area to get involved in the programme.
